Fieldnote  神山之下 Beneath the Sacred Mountain






This series of works interrogates the inevitable "mediation" that humans encounter when approaching the Meri Snow Mountain. In this process, tools and media either serve to extend human sensory faculties (such as telescopes) or to objectify nature through measurement (like contour lines and tree-ring lines). As part of the ever-changing landscape of  Meri Snow Mountain, Kawagarbo Peak has been closed to climbers since 2001 due to a climbing accident.  Due to its inaccessibility, the Mingyong Glacier beneath the peak maintains certain topographical ambiguity that resists direct physical engagement.

这组作品追问人类在接近梅里雪山时所一定遭遇的“媒介化”环节。在此过程中,工具媒介或为了扩大人类身体的官能(望远镜),或为了在测量中将自然客体化(等高线和年轮线)。作为梅里雪山风景流动的一部分,卡瓦格博峰在2001年因山难已经禁止攀登,其下的明永冰川也不可亲临,始终保有某种地貌模糊性并抵拒身体的介入。

Amid the increasingly uncontrollable process of climate change, the future distribution patterns of glaciers have become unstable, while the annual rings of local spruce trees silently record temperature fluctuations within. In the current era of global climate change, the faster the temperature rises, the more rapidly the Mingyong Glacier retreats, rendering its former contour lines impossible to redraw. Simultaneously, trees are growing more vigorously, and the annual rings of spruce are widening year by year. Humans can only rely on these two types of measurement lines—contour lines and tree rings—to indirectly grasp these interconnected changes. The causes of environmental shifts may originate from incense burners or exhaust pipes, representing an invasion carried by plumes of "smoke rings."

在愈发不可控的气候变化进程中,冰川在未来的分布规律是不稳定的,当地云杉的年轮在内部沉默地记录着温度的变化。在全球气候变化的当下,气温上升得越快,明永冰川退后越会加剧,曾经的冰川等高线不可再绘。与此同时,树木将更加茂盛地生长,云杉年轮线逐年增宽。人类只能依赖这两种测量线去间接把握这种相互呼应的变化。环境变化的肇因可能源于煨桑炉,可能源于排气管,是来自一串“烟圈”的侵袭。

The drawing series uses local Dongba paper from Yunnan as durable base, depicting the images of the "sacred mountains" that are revered by the Tibetan people in northwestern Yunnan. The Mingyong Glacier series floats amidst clouds and mist, while “the thirteen peaks of Meri Snow Mountain” rise from the folded pages like mounts and valleys. In this moment, drawings become vessels of memory, constructing themselves in the interplay between the eye and the mind.

绘画系列以云南当地的东巴纸为其耐保存的基底,将滇西北藏族民众所崇拜的“圣山”图像描摹其上。明永冰川系列飘浮在云雾之中,“梅里十三峰”在折本中凹凸起伏,自成山谷。此时绘画已是记忆之媒,在眼与心的游戏中构造着自身。
