The ancient Huizhou region often served as a refuge during turbulent periods in Chinese history. Its location in the Jiangnan Hills is the result of the Late Mesozoic Yanshan Movement. The homogeneous folded terrain of the Jiangnan Hills provided shelter for early inhabitants, while the rugged low to mid-mountain landscape offered a viewing experience that felt expansive yet was, in fact, intimate in scale.
The design proposal departs from the activities of mountain strolling and panoramic viewing, using the body's "moving view" along circular routes to respond to the vortex-like movement model that characterizes the evolutionary pattern of Chinese history. This design approach also aims to transcend scenographic landscape design paradigms, placing the subjectivity of historical spirit and the corporeality of individual consciousness at the forefront of placemaking. By doing so, it transforms bodily movement within mountain village settings into a miniature model that reflects the dynamic spirit of regional history.
