The  IKIGAI Scenic Area in Guilin boasts a panoramic view of the nearby karst mountains, yet prolonged one-directional viewing has solidified a fixed perception of this terrain. By rotating the viewing angle by 90 degrees, the design reexamines this iconic landscape and seeks to decode its geological origins. The pattern design employs a continuous cross-section technique to transform the originally complicated mountain contours into a legible pattern. The pattern can be printed on various mediums (such as T-shirts and tote bags) for making souvenirs.

At the time, the scenic area was preparing for an outdoor music festival. Red soil, a byproduct of karst landscape and lawn  maintenance, was collected into test tubes and offered as rewards to music fans who demonstrated care for the venue's environment.
