Approximately 20000 years ago, as the Laurentide Ice Sheet began to recede across North America, it nearly erased all traces of the terrain it traversed, including certain irregularities in the prehistoric landscape. This was followed by massive flooding and subsequent retreat, until the surface materials resettled through buoyancy, forming fertile black soil.

This set of material experiments reimagines that period of climatic history, revealing the past materiality of the Drowned Lands through geological model and papermaking process. In the current context of rapid climate change, the experiment offers a tangible pathway to comprehend the process of large-scale deglaciation through embodied experience.
